The Old Mill Hotel

This project involves a unique and challenging site, being situated within the Green Belt, the Batheaston Conservation Area and it remains a World Heritage Site. Furthermore, the hotel frames the setting of the Grade II listed toll bridge to the front and the Grade II listed Bath Brewery and Avondale House to the rear. The site is also located within a flood zone and a site of nature conservation.

 

Our client’s brief asks that we replace an existing run-down two-storey bedroom block with a series of new structures which would provide additional bedrooms via a new elevated experience above the River Avon flood risk zone. These individual structures would be accessed by an elevated walkway linked to the main hotel, itself extended to modernise the river view experience.
