The client requested a scheme to improve the existing dwelling to provide ‘ bigger & brighter’ spaces and reduce the detrimental impact the existing layout has on the clients preferred living & working lifestyle choices.

​

In terms of ‘bigger’, options were tested to extend into the garden in a way that captures east facing sunlight & offers pleasant gardens views, without hijacking too much valuable garden space, also to utilise a large portion of the side alleyway to create useful space.

​

In terms of ‘brighter’, glazing will be maximised bringing in daylight deep into the flat.

​

The solution involved angling the extension’s rear external walls, in order to frame views into the garden, preventing overlooking to & from the neighbouring gardens in order to preserve as much garden space as possible. 

​

The extension has been approved by the council.
