This extension proposal gained consent in 2024 & forms part of a group of Victorian townhouses in Hammersmith.
The brief was relatively simple, requiring a need for additional space for a young couple within a one-bedroom flat at lower ground floor level in order to enlarge the two existing spaces facing the garden, these being the kitchen/living/dining as one space and the bedroom as another.
In order to maintain a comfortable ceiling height within the proposed extension it was proposed to lower the floor level by 400mm. This helps maintain the roof height at the same level as the existing boundary wall whilst also creating an interesting level change within the extension between existing and new.
The roof of the extension will contain a sedum-planted green roof which serves two purposes: one for ecological benefits and the other to provide a green backdrop for the upper-level residents as a continuation of the garden view.
